Gameplay and vanity is a false dichotomy. Storage can be something else entirely.

Sweet necro.
I bought as many panes as I could as soon as I could--at full price. I have no regrets.

O.o oh well i still relevant today I guess
but I still ain't buying any with international exchange rates from AU to UK
I know they need money coming in and paying employees but hope they have
it later on at %50 off not %25 or some other deal like buy one get one free.
PS don't want to start panes v buying Accounts but it's cheaper for me to buy
Profs here for $9.95AU if i wanted storage.

Well i have some panes ..does not bother me in the slightest that i had to pay for them. Yes nobody forces you to buy...so its buyers choice
For a game that has no monthly fees and what I hve spent over 4 years I consider it minimal. Mabe new guys may feel like its expensive but I think
its an option Sure buy a slot and a have the best of both worlds.
So if you can manage to have your chest full with things you need
not hoarding then you have enough storage as it is

If I knew that the money from buying storage tabs was being directly re invested into more content for GW1 then I may be tempted.
Overall, $10 is still too much for a storage tab when the same amount of money can buy a standalone campaign.

I can't see investing anymore into a game that will be dead space not too long in the distant future. Everyone who is anyone is going to GW2 and to put more money into this game "especially $40" for some silly storage containers is just being a fool. Ok so they are $7.50 now big deal still way too much. Buying another mule would get you more slots than the four extra slots combined would give you. If you're too lazy to log out and log in to get what you want then I guess you deserve to pay the extra waste of money. Having another account will also save you time and money vs this ripoff.

Meh, I'm still "boycotting".
Really, I'd rather just buy another account (EDIT:actually, at the current price of my closest PC game store, I could buy 2 accounts for almost the same price of 1 storage pane :/) if I need more storage. It's really not that inconvenient to move stuff around and I always end up using those accounts for something.

This whole thread becomes a joke just by this statement alone. The whole f'n game is virtual space ffs!
I'm not even going to read any more of this, if this is indicative of the idiocy involved.

The thing is not that they are selling virtual space, it is that they are selling it at a premium price while the cheaper mule account alternative has existed since the very start.
If the price was at least close to what we get from buying a mule account I'd buy it.
I think after all the OCD users got their panes sales stopped so now they're seeing how much more can they milk this cow by lowering the price incrementally. Of course, we already had mule accounts for storage and we got those cheaper than the stupid panes so I'm not surprised they are desperately trying to push more sales.
I'm pretty sure if they made them 1 or 2 bucks a pop they will earn much more than keeping them at this ridiculous price.

i begrudgingly bought all 4 panes when they went on sale. i still think the price is ridiculous, but i don't think anet will make them any cheaper anytime soon. i don't have time to grind for large equip packs for 13 characters and i'm tired of swapping stuff around my mules. i bet they made the large equip packs so hard to get just to make people buy more storage. /tinfoilhat

The reason the panes don't sell is that the need for storage is not there and has always been exaggerated since we went from 1 pane to 4 panes. Offering storage in a stagnant game after everyone has finished the available content is why sales are down not the price of the pane. If Anet released a new chapter the panes would sell like hotcakes at 15 bucks a whoop.

Disagree. The need for storage increases with time even with a stagnant game, as players get more and more various stuff when playing. Since in GW everything is equal, you don't get better armors or weapons, you keep getting more of the same instead of replacing worse with better. Also many players like to collect things and collections grow over time. And don't forget that Anet actually keeps adding _entirely new items_ to the game even when they don't release much new content.
And most imporant thing not to be forgotten - GW still doesn't have ANY automated trading system at all, so selling is a big pain and items for sale take hundreds of slots.
Still the panes are vastly overpriced, I didn't buy any despite I would make good use of all 4. That's a boycott.
I hope Anet didn't sell as much of those as they expected.
Because if it exceeded their expectations, they will only abuse the fact even more. They'll make even more even smaller addons for even more absurd prices and find ways to have them give advantages over players who don't buy them. Then there's GW2 coming, and it's business model and addon pricing is likely to be based upon the results of this grand test - a test of how much can they rip off the players.
Just imagine the hell of having to buy more and more $10 tiny storage panes in GW2 because the initial storage amount is only enough for a couple weeks of play. And it can get worse than that.
Boycott of a blatant rip is wise.

There really is nothing to boycott. Areanet offered extra storage, except it costs money. You dont have to buy it. They're not forcing you. Yes, I think $10 is way too much, but again, optional is the key word. So what are we boycotting again? Areanet will do nothing.

Boycott? I don't think my not purchasing the upgrades is a boycott per se. It's just that I do not think the panes hold enough value to justify the price.
As someone else said recently in this necro thread, $10 for all 4? I'd pay that. If not, I can just pay the same price to get an additional character slot.
$10 - Additional character slot to play on, +100 plat available storage, +50 item slots in regular bags/pouch, +20 weapon/armor storage if I get a heavy pack, +1 weapon slot, +1 shield/focus slot, +5 armor slots for runes.
or...
$10 - +20 slots.
The math doesn't favor the storage panes at all.
